Poles

Wondering Poles

Some times a heavily cropped image really works. This I feel is one of those times. Good tonal range and a subject matter which lends itself to breaking the rule of thirds ideal.

I particullaly like the tone of this image. While its abstractness leads the eye one way, the tonal range seem to ease the image some what, allowing for a which invites you to look and to make sense of, but without assulting the senses.

Similar to Twisted Wreck, this is a shot of the Ship Wreck sculpture at St Kilda beach. This time however the enphises is on colour and definition rather than tone and movement.

Row Boat

The simple image of a Row Boat is the setting for subtle shifts in tone. Normaly the pier getting in the way at the bottom of the frame would have been a distraction, but I feel it works here.

Twisted Wreck

An image of twisted lines and tones from inside a sculpture of the Ship Wreck at St Kilda Beach. Its the movment of form I like here, the usual straight lines of a ship are shown through the eyes of German Expressionism.

Wondering around St Kilda netted this particular image. I like the muted hue of yellow as it casts its light on what is often seen as a bright subject matter.

Classical Structure

One of the many classical Victorian buildings in and around town. It was just approaching dusk so the lights were on and I think they add nicely to the overall athsetic.

Second in the Graffiti series. An interesting image which concentrates on the graffiti while at the same time highlighting an existing cityscape.

Avenue of Trees

Again this is an older image taken on a rather crappy PnS. Yet there is no denying the effect. It is one of my favorate images really, an avenue of English Elm trees in the Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne.

One of the first photographs I took with the new camera. A nice combination of stillness and motion. I particulally like the blurred almost ghostly top half of the figure in conjunction with the single foot.

This object sits on the hill overlooking Brighton beach. It does not really serve any purpose. Indeed no one really knows what its there for. It is gernerally refered to as "the thing". I like the angles in this image and the sky gives it a really surreal feel.

In terms of graphitti, this is an unusual image, not the usual script or style, I tend to see this as street art, which luckely got missed when the Victorian Government desided to get rid of all the street art for the Commonweath Games. Actually, concidering this mandate, there was little evidence of the Government removing Street art at all.

Shot of my dog Loki in the act of looking for trouble. Right after this she nicked my sock and ran off with it. Still, it is a good image. I like the expression on her face really it tells you a lot more about what she is planing really.

Latte

Latte

After a hard days shooting, I stopped off at the local cafe to relax and have a latte. The light was just right, and the the little face in the latte along with the cracks in the table made for a really good image. Coffee was good too.

Looking back towards the city from near my place. It was just turning dusk and the light refected of the buildings is neither dark or light which I rather like. I particularly like the light / building you can see through the trees. I

On a cold day in Melbourne, I managed to get some pretty emotive shots of Station Pier. This first one juxtaposes the power stations with the jetty, with a sea of glass in between. I have often thought it looks both tranquel and surreal at the same time.

The third in the Pier series blends an interesting mix of forground and background components. I particularly like the way the smoke from the power plant is juxtaposed with the bird on the bollard.
